2010 in review
Clients
We enjoy serving each of our customers. In 2010, our team was pleased to welcome several new clients to the businesses it serves in French-to-English translation and English composition, editing and proofreading. As always, we welcome your comments and questions.
Accreditation
It's been a year now since company owner, experienced translator and author Scott Stevenson sought and successfully obtained certification as a professional translator from the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec.
Anniversaries
This year marked the following anniversaries for the company and its staff members (years of service):
Stevenson & Writers – 12 years
Scott – 12 years
Stephanie – 8 years
Erin – 8 years
Susan – 5 years
Annie – 5 years
Helen – 3 years
Community contributions
This past year, we continued the Stevenson & Writers tradition of annually donating English writing, French-to-English translation or English-language editing services equalling 1% of the company’s annual gross revenues to one or more community organizations. However, in 2009, for the first time, we launched a public invitation to volunteer groups inviting them to apply as this year’s potential recipient. (In the past, staff members chose the volunteer organizations to receive free services.)
The organizations receiving a donation of complimentary services in 2010 were CALACS,
Regroupement Soutien aux Aidants de Brome-Missisquoi (RASBM) and
the Table de concertation contre les mauvais traitements faits envers les personnes aînées de l’Estrie (TCMT). These community groups were provided with a free translation of their respective Web sites and documentation..
A look ahead
The economy and the environment are key concerns for many individuals and businesses. We at Stevenson & Writers are optimistic that the future holds promise. We look forward to new challenges and to helping our clients accomplish grand things in both official languages.
A 10th anniversary thanksgiving
Stevenson & Writers took root in 1998 when I began offering commercial writing, translation and editing services. I incorporated in 2002, and today the company tree continues to grow new roots and branches each year, largely thanks to the kind words of our clients and the devoted service of my team.
As we pass this 10-year milestone in the company’s history, I would like to thank Marc Bolduc, Bruno Fortier, Blair McIntosh and Ken Stevenson for their encouraging words, advice, referrals and business as I set out to launch the company; Barbara Verity for inspiration and guidance in my choice of the written word and a healthy home-work balance in my career; Annie Duriez, Stephanie Goddard, Helen Johnston, Erin Mallory, Susan Mastine and Matthew Shepherd for their help and service in building and running the company; my family for accepting a husband, father and stepfather often torn between home and work; and many others who have shown their support and appreciation over the past 10 years.
We look forward to sharing many more words and voices with all of you – clients, colleagues and suppliers – over the next 10 years!
Scott Verity Stevenson
